According to Google Trends, UK searches for “digital detox” are at the highest level in the past 5 years, prompting a Yorkshire brand to scope out the best regions for a total reset away from screens, notifications, and endless emails.

The modern always-on lifestyle is driving Brits to seek out quiet corners of the country where they can truly switch off. A digital detox break can help reduce stress, improve sleep, and restore focus, but many would-be escapists still face one key question: where should they go to properly reset?

Rydale, a Yorkshire-born country clothing brand, has tapped into extensive online data to compile a list of eight regions for a restorative digital detox weekend. Each has been scored from one to ten (one being unsatisfactory, ten being excellent) for location and natural surroundings, level of disconnection, and wellness & relaxation activities.

1. Scottish Highlands (West Coast & Loch Regions)

A castle in the Highlands of Scotland

Dramatic mountains and mirror-still lochs make the Highlands one of the UK's most powerful places to unplug. Hike quiet trails as wind moves through the glens, with no phone signal to distract your senses from the vast landscapes.

2. Scottish Islands (Hebrides, Orkney, Shetland)

Scotland's remote islands offer windswept beaches and endless skies that naturally pull you away from daily life. Ferry rides and patchy reception encourage coastal walks, wildlife spotting, and simple fireside evenings with no screens in sight.

3. Northumberland National Park & Coast

The beach in front of Bamburgh Castle, Northumberland

Dark skies, quiet beaches, and uncrowded horizons make Northumberland perfect for escaping digital noise. Walk empty sands with just sea birds for company, then stargaze from your quaint cottage garden under crystal-clear night skies.

4. Snowdonia / Eryri National Park

Rugged peaks, steep valleys, and ancient woodland give Snowdonia a wild backdrop for proper reset. Mountain hikes pair beautifully with pine-scented forest walks and tranquil lakeside moments that feel far from the constant ping of notifications.

5. Lake District (Dunnerdale, Ennerdale, Rusland Valley)

The Lake District’s quieter valleys offer peaceful lakes, hidden tarns, and rolling fells. Gentle lakeside walks and relaxing spa retreats make it easy to switch off and unwind in nature with zero distractions.

6. Yorkshire Dales National Park

Rolling hills in the Yorkshire Dales

Rolling green hills, dry-stone walls, and tumbling waterfalls create the Dales' natural invitation to slow living. Riverside strolls and village pub evenings shift focus to conversation as weather rolls gently across the striking landscape.

7. Herefordshire & Welsh Borders

Gentle hills, orchards, and patchwork fields lend these borderlands an unhurried, timeless charm. Whether enjoying countryside walks or yoga retreats, each day stretches out beautifully at its own pace.

8. Pembrokeshire Coast & Preseli Hills

Rugged cliffs and sandy coves meet inland moorland in Pembrokeshire's far west. Coastal paths and sea-salt picnics naturally disconnect you, while starry nights encourage proper rest miles from the urban bustle.
