Rydale Sustainability

Our Aim

Our passion for the great British outdoors has motivated us to do great hings. Here at Rydale, we all have a true passion for not only country clothing, but the countryside too. We supply amazing quality outdoor clothing for men, women, children, and even your four-legged friend. However, part of our commitment is ensuring we do everything we possibly can to reduce our carbon footprint.

Here’s what’s happened so far…

Our Aim

The Antithesis of Fast Fashion

Here at Rydale, our clothing and footwear is made for wear after wear - the antithesis of fast fashion. We create products that are built to last and we have a range of products to prolong the lifespan of certain items. For the waxed products such as jackets, gilets and hats, our range of re-proofing dressings and sprays will protect and rejuvenate the condition of your item, preserve the fabric and ensure it lasts year on year.

Our in-wash products for re-waterproofing not only dramatically improve water repellency, but it will also increase the lifespan of your outerwear items, creating a long-lasting, protective barrier. These are just some of the great alternatives to consider to avoid replacing your wardrobe each year.

The Rydale clothing and footwear care range has everything you need to prolong the life of your country clothing, and as a result, massively reduce the impact it has on the environment to continuously buy and replace.

Our Move to Responsibly Sourced Fabrics

During 2023, our designers partnered up with some of our suppliers to create our first (and certainly not last!) recycled clothing collection. This range is crafted from recycled plastic bottles and to make 1KG of fleece fabric, we used more than 1KG of PET (polyethylene terephthalate) plastic bottles, which is usually Coca-Cola. PET bottles are 100% recyclable and very sustainable, and each bottle can be recovered and recycled into new products over and over again, reducing wastage as a result.

Moving forward, we would love for all our clothing to be responsibly sourced, ensuring we are consume less energy and reduce the overall carbon footprint. Here’s our current responsibly sourced range:

British Made Clothing

Great Britian is known around the world for its historical charm, breathtaking green landscapes, and vibrant culture. Here at Rydale, we have a growing collection of British made clothing and accessories, all tried and tested in the great outdoors. Our clothing ranges from check tweed jackets and gilets for ladies, gents and children, as well as waxed cotton coats in a variety of styles. To bring a rural touch into your home, we stock a beautiful range of British made tweed cushions for both indoor and outdoor use.

We are always working with our British suppliers to grow the range, and the latest is our very own clothing and footwear care. To produce goods that stand the test of time, preventing the need to consume regularly, that’s why we choose to buy British.

Choosing to purchase British-made clothing helps not only us, but you to reduce your carbon footprint when it comes to the fashion industry. By opting for UK made products, our supply chain is much smaller and that allows us to cut out the transportation and use energy-efficient processes.

On-Site Waste Management & Recycling

Based in the greatest place on earth, our head office and distribution centre operate from a 200,000 square foot warehouse in Yorkshire. The whole operation is family run, and we have all being working hard over the last 10+ years in improve on our waste management and recycling. We are proud to say we have achieved <0.5% contribution to landfill since 2012 by recycling virtually all company waste. Recyclable cardboard and packaging are being used more and more on a daily basis to ship to our loyal customers, and we hope that becomes 100% in the near future.

To further offset our small carbon footprint, we have created large area of woodland by planting over 10,000 trees and counting in and around our centre. This includes some lovely trees that have been precisely dotted around our parking area, which become picture perfect when Spring gets into full swing. The remaining trees are spread across the surrounding woodland, ensuring homes for the birds and squirrels.

Our Promise

Sustainability is the commitment to preserving the delicate balance of our planet's ecosystems, ensuring the well-being of both current and future generations.

It encompasses responsible practices that aim to minimise environmental impact and conserve natural resources. We need the plants to flourish, forests to grow and the animals to thrive.

At its core, sustainability emphasises the interconnectedness of all living beings and recognizes the finite nature of our planet's resources. By adopting sustainable practices in areas such as sustainable materials, energy consumption and waste management, we as individuals and businesses can work together to create a more resilient and harmonious world.

Through conscious decision-making and collective action, our promise as we move forward is to give back, create products we know you’ll love using sustainable materials, ensure our waste management is kept low whilst our recycling is kept high and leave the smallest of footprints.

We are always up for a challenge, maybe it’s the Yorkshire in us…We know there’s so much more to learn and so much more to do, and we’re super excited for what’s ahead.

Our three main aims before 2030 are:

  1. Even more of our range to be responsibly sourced
  1. Plant hundred’s more trees
  1. Change almost all plastic packaging into recyclable materials
