5 Plus Size Outfit Ideas

01 Mar 2024 |

Getting dressed every day is something that should be a fun activity if you have a wardrobe full of items that you love. However, plus-size women often struggle to find pieces that fit them well and still look stylish. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of 5 plus size outfit ideas to give you a helping out. We’ve gathered the five most popular situations you’ll find yourself in living in the countryside and thrown in our favourite products to help you build an outfit.

As always, we’re big believers in creating a capsule wardrobe of key, classic pieces that you wear frequently. That means you can spend a little more on buying quality rather than having a wardrobe full of cheap and ill-fitting items that you never reach for. Read on for our top styling tips!

What to wear… on a countryside walk

We’ll start off with everyone’s favourite countryside activity, walking! Whether it’s a longer dog walk on weekends or a local hike with a group, walking is an activity that lots of us enjoy. That means your outfit will need to be practical but that doesn’t mean you have to compromise on style or comfort.

One of our favourite items are walking trousers because they’re super stretchy for any body type. The Kilnwick walking trousers are our classic version and recently, they’ve had an overhaul. Listening to your feedback,  we’ve increased the rise to mid-to-high to give a much more flattering look as well as adding extra belt loops. The waist is cut a little higher in the back too for extra coverage. This fabric is water resistant and breathable, making them ideal for hiking and walking long distances.

If you want to purchase a more trendy pair, the Aike trousers are a cargo style trouser but are exactly the same fit as the Kilnwich pair. The only difference is the addition of a side pocket on each side. They even come in denim so if you want a more flexible pair of skinny jeans, these are the walking trousers for you!

The key aspect to consider when walking is definitely the weather. If you’re going to be outdoors for more than half an hour, you might need to layer up. Depending on the season, starting with a sports layer is usually the best way to go before adding a fleece or gilet on top. You might go out in four layers but gradually take off slayer the further into your walk that you get. Don’t forget to take a packable rucksack to store them in!

Ladies Sportswear

The main essentials for a walk are your footwear. As Marilyn Monroe once said, “Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world” or at least conquer any walk! That’s why walking boots are a necessity for serious walkers. They’ve been designed to support your feet and ankles on longer walks but to make your feet as comfortable as possible too. Whether you opt for a pair in olive, brown or navy, our walking boots have been tried and tested on a range of terrains.

What to wear… for a lazy day at home

Sometimes, you just want to be comfy on a day at home. Whether you’re lounging on the sofa or doing some cleaning, jogging bottoms are a must. That doesn’t mean they have to look unstylish so clear out those old joggers and get yourself a new set. Loungewear is very trendy right now because who doesn’t want to look cool but feel cosy at the same time? Whether you’re a fan of patterns or solid block colours, either option is great for home life.

What’s even better is that you can get yourself the entire set with a matching hoodie! They’re perfect for the colder seasons as the cross neck front is higher than a regular hoodie. We love the patterned version but the block colour one is just as stylish. These items can be worn together or separately so you’ve got two incredibly versatile pieces in one go.

This look can be completed with either trainers or slippers. Just make sure not to leave the house if you’re opting for slippers! Gone for a patterned loungewear set? Wear plain coloured trainers. If you prefer a solid colour loungewear set, why not choose a patterned pair of sneakers? Staying at home? A pair of tweed or suede slippers will be like a cloud on your feet! Trust us, the faux fur lining is so cosy, you won’t want to take these slippers off!

What to wear… for running errands around town

When it comes to running errands, you can go one of two ways: super casual, such as gym wear, or casual and dressed-down in everyday style. It’ll probably depend on the activities you’ll be doing. The more movement, the more you might want to wear gym wear. Although many will say that gymwear is not an outfit, if it fits well and you feel good in it, it’s an outfit! Our Skerne sports leggings are some of our favourites to wear when running errands. Whether you plan to workout or not doesn’t matter, these leggings are super comfortable because of their high waist and stretchy material. They also match our sports top too for a complete look.

If you prefer a more put-together look, a pair of straight leg jeans should be your go-to wardrobe staple. Straight leg jeans are much more comfortable and often more flattering than skinny jeans, especially for plus-size women. Ours have been designed with extra stretch so they should feel fitted but not tight. Roll them up a little during the summer for a quiet styling option or tuck into Chelsea boots when it’s colder.

The beauty is with running errands, you can wear anything on your top half. Want to feel cosy and comfortable? Stick on a hoodie or a sweatshirt. Want to feel a little dressed up? A flowy blouse will look gorgeous. Last-minute plans with a friend for lunch? Take your tweed blazer along with you. Straight leg jeans are one of the easiest items to dress up or down in any season or weather.

What to wear… on a night at the pub in winter

Winter nights in the pub instantly scream cosy vibes. Whether you’ve got a glass of wine or a hot coffee to hand as well as some pub grub (and maybe a hot dessert afterwards), you’ll need room to breathe. That means any tight-fitting clothes are out of the picture. Nobody wants to feel uncomfortable or bloated whilst eating out.

Whilst we’d all love to pop to the pub in pyjamas or loungewear (each to their own), it’s probably not acceptable! How about sticking to a simple but comfy outfit instead? We love our staple straight leg jeans because they always feel clean in style. You can wear them during the day for running errands, switch your top and shoes and you’re ready for a night out.

Long sleeves are a must during the winter, even inside a country pub. We’re big fans of a thick cotton rugby shirt, especially one that’s plain in design. It might seem like a casual item but because it’s so classic, it looks dressy with dark wash denim. The neutral and jewel-tone shades will always be in style so you might want to start a collection of them!

When it comes to footwear, you might want to dress up a little. Many of us spend so much time at home now that it’s always a lovely excuse to add some glam to any outfit. An easy way to do that is to add a pair of heeled boots. Whilst they’re not a pair of stilettos for ultra glam, they’re much more comfortable and trust us, look after them and they’ll last you for years. They’ll dress up any casual outfit and a pair of heels often give you a confidence boost, especially when you can walk in them properly! Our heeled boots come in both suede and leather so there’s a style for any country lady.

What to wear… on a night at the pub in summer

Summer nights are a little easier to plan an outfit for because you don’t need to think about wearing a thousand layers, only to take them off as soon as you get indoors. However, you can still dress cute and comfy for pub trips in the summer.

Instead of jeans, how about opting for a skirt or shorts instead? Many fashion experts will tell you what not to wear in terms of your height or size but we say if you feel confident in an item, you should wear it! In summer, you’ll want to opt for something soft and cool so cotton is the best material to go for. Our favourite item in the summer is our Kirby skirt that comes in three different colourways. It has an elasticated waist, perfect for eating out, and even better, it has pockets! If you’re only popping to the pub, you might only need your phone and the pockets are ideal for that.

If you prefer shorts, the Kirby shorts are a lovely option. These shorts are a little more casual than the skirt version so dress them down with deck shoes or trainers. They’re a flattering mid thigh length and with the elasticated waist and drawstring, they will fit any body. We love to wear ours with a short sleeved polo shirt for the ultimate preppy look.

We hope that you enjoyed these 5 plus size outfit ideas fit for any occasion. As long as your clothing fits you properly, you can rock any outfit at any size. All of our clothing and footwear is made from high quality materials too so it’s been made to last. We believe that everyone deserves to have well-made, beautiful clothing at an affordable price!
