5 Spring Date Night Outfits for Any Activity

01 May 2025 |

Now we’re fully into spring, you might be planning something special for date night. With the improving weather and temperatures rising, you might begin to spend more time socialising. Whether it’s a spring date night with your partner or seeing your best friend, it’s important to look and feel the part. We’ve come up with our top 5 spring date night outfits for any activity and made some suggestions as to the occasion.

5 Spring Date Night Outfit Ideas

Jeans and a floaty blouse

Perfect for: casual spring date nights at your local pub

If there’s ever a fancy dinner outfit that just works every single time, it’s jeans and a nice top. It’s ingrained in us since we’re teenagers that it’s the go-to outfit for just about any casual to smart-casual event. However, the grown-up version is a floaty blouse. It’s a feminine take on the outfit, and a flowy top is much more comfortable than a tighter version.

Whilst we love a traditional checked shirt, it’s nice to switch it up. Especially if you’re going for something to eat, a floaty blouse means you don’t feel as restricted if you’ve had a big dinner! Our favourite style for those occasions is probably an overhead style, as the A-line fit is flattering on all bodies. Depending on the weather, you could opt for a sleeveless version, a short-sleeved style or a long-sleeved blouse.

For super dressy events, why not try a tie-neck blouse? They’re still feminine, but the pussy-bow neck tie adds a glamorous edge to any outfit. Pair with heeled boots and tuck it into your jeans for a streamlined look. Whether you prefer slim-leg or straight-leg jeans, wear whatever style you feel the most comfortable in!

A button-up shirt and a tweed skirt

Perfect for: dressier restaurants and pub gardens in the spring

If there’s any item we love above everything else, it’s something tweed. A tweed skirt is a more modern take on the material, but is also such an easy piece to style for a spring date night outfit. Whilst it’s not for super casual occasions, anytime you want to feel instantly smarter, all you need to do is slip on a tweed skirt.

The A-line fit of our tweed skirts is flattering on all shapes and sizes, and with a range of colourways to choose from, you can go as bold or as subtle in colour as you’d like. One of our top tips is to always match the colour of your date night top to one of the coloured threads of the tweed. Trust us, it just makes your entire outfit look cohesive, and who doesn’t want to look put-together and ladylike?

Our tweed skirts hit mid-thigh, but this style is a little longer, sitting just above the knee. Paired with a tall boot, it might feel less exposing if you love the style of a tweed skirt but feel uncomfortable in a short skirt. When paired with a button-up shirt, you’re ready for any dressy occasion.

An oversized blazer and a denim or chino skirt

Perfect for: trendy bars and restaurants in town

If you’re looking for a spring date night outfit that’s dressy but less classic in style and more current in trends, pair an oversized item with something more fitted. A great place to start is to wear a fitted outfit, such as a plain T-shirt and a denim skirt and throw on an oversized blazer. It’s giving cool girl vibes but a little more grown-up and sophisticated.

You want to avoid bulk underneath an oversized blazer to keep the look streamlined. A denim or chino skirt that hits mid-thigh is short without feeling too overexposed, and pairing it with a short-sleeved fitted top or T-shirt makes it feel pretty casual. Want to dress the look down? Go for a fitted polo shirt for casual occasions. Too warm for something tight? Opt for a loose-fitting camisole and tuck the front into your denim skirt to give the illusion of a waist.

Then the trick is to take it from a nice outfit to an amazing one with an oversized blazer. Whether it’s a shorter or longer length, it’s up to you which fits you prefer or which suits your body type the most. However, any blazer will make this outfit smart enough for everything from a night out with the girls in a cocktail bar to a family outing to your favourite restaurant.

A cotton skirt or shorts and a polo or rugby shirt

Perfect for: sunset dates

If your spring date is at sunset and it feels more like a summer’s day, you might want to get some air to your skin. And starting your outfit with a cotton skirt or shorts is perfect.

Again, both of our cotton skirts and shorts hit mid-thigh, which is super flattering on all shapes and sizes. If you’re wearing a neutral shade on your bottom half, you can add lots of colour on the top half and vice versa. The cotton skirt or shorts will also keep you cool, especially if you’re walking from place to place to catch the best sunset views.

On your top half, we love our polo and rugby shirts. Polo shirts add a pop of colour to any outfit, but during the spring, it can get a little chilly. A long-sleeved rugby shirt will keep the chill off your arms and shoulders without feeling too restrictive.

Walking trousers and a hoodie

Perfect for: exploring the great outdoors in the spring

Spring dates can simply mean exploring the outdoors! Going for a long walk or a hike is such a great activity to get outside and get some fresh air in your lungs.

However, spring walks can bring any type of weather, so it’s important to be prepared. On your bottom half, you’ll want to wear something comfortable and stretchy – if you’re a regular walker, it might be time to invest in a pair of walking trousers. They fit like jeggings (remember those?), hugging your figure in a beautifully flattering fashion, but they’re much stretchier.

For your top half, anything goes. However, you might want to wear light layers in case you get caught in a chilly patch or it starts to rain (always pack a jacket in a packet, regardless of the temperature). We love to wear a hoodie on shorter walks as they keep you warm without being too thick – perfect for breaking a sweat.

Whether you’re exploring the outdoors or heading to a fancy restaurant with your date, it’s the perfect time to upgrade your spring date night outfits with Rydale.
