5 Autumn Photoshoot Outfits for a Quintessentially British Look

08 Sep 2025 |

With autumn on the horizon, lots of families are looking forward to their annual photoshoots. Maybe the pictures are for your Christmas cards (we know, it’s too early), or perhaps you just want to update your photo wall. A family photoshoot is a great way to bring everyone together and have a fun day out captured on camera. We’ve rounded up our five favourite autumn photoshoot outfits for the entire family, filled with items you’ll probably already have in your wardrobe already.

Our Top 5 Autumn Photoshoot Outfits: Ideas for the Whole Family

It’s always best to wear something you feel comfortable and confident in, isn’t it? Think cosy country comfort as your overall theme, and you’re more than halfway there already!

A Checked Shirt, Dark Wash Jeans & Chelsea Boots

Men's checked shirt

It can’t be an autumn photoshoot outfit in the countryside without a checked shirt. Maybe the theme of your photos can be a checked shirt in the same colour scheme for the entire family? If that feels a little too matchy-matchy, try to limit the look to only one or two family members. However, having a similar outfit to your child can look super cute in a photoshoot!

Dark wash jeans will help the lighter-coloured checked shirt to stand out and won’t show up much dirt if you happen to be in the countryside for the photoshoot. Jeans tucked into Chelsea boots is a quintessential countryside look, but try to pick dark brown or tan boots to disguise any mud.

A Cable Knit Jumper, Walking Trousers or Jodhpurs & Knee-High Boots

For a cosy feel to your autumn photoshoot outfit, opt for a cable knit jumper in a deep colour. You can layer a collared shirt underneath for extra warmth or just a fitted T-shirt underneath so you don’t get cold outside. Cable knits scream British countryside luxury, and we have just about every colour under the sun! From vibrant peaches to muted khaki and everything in between, we even have a brand new quarter-zip style, perfect for cool autumnal days, when it’s too hot for a coat but cool enough for a jumper.

Pair with a pair of dark walking trousers or jodhpurs for a comfortable outdoors look. However, a pair of knee-high boots, such as our popular Tullymore style, makes you feel a little more covered, especially if it’s cold or damp out.

A Floaty Blouse, a Tweed Skirt & Riding Boots

Ladies tweed skirt

For a super feminine look for both women and girls, pairing a floaty blouse with a tweed skirt is the ultimate ladylike autumn photoshoot outfit. Make sure the blouse is either plain or has a very subtle print on it, as tweed skirts are often the focal point of any outfit. You could even try to match the thread in the tweed with the colour or pattern on your shirt for a cohesive look.

Finish the ensemble with riding boots. Whilst suede might be your preferred material, suede and mud don’t go well together, even if you use a protectant spray on them. Genuine leather is much easier to wipe clean after your photoshoot!

A Rugby Shirt, Beige Chinos & Lace-Up Boots

For something less formal but still put-together, how about a classic rugby shirt and a pair of beige chinos? Gentlemen, ladies, and children all look great in this combination, making it perfect for a family photoshoot. A jewel-toned rugby shirt will pop on camera, especially against lighter chinos. Just make sure to take a blanket for outdoor pictures so you don’t get mud stains all over your trousers.

Lace-up boots are not only on-trend for autumn and winter, they’re also very practical. Our designs come in sizes for the whole family, so even just matching boots will bring together the entire photoshoot!

A Collared Shirt, Shooting Breeks & Wellington Boots

Ladies shooting outfit

If you want to go all-out countryfied for your autumn photoshoot outfits, a pair of shooting breeks and a pair of wellies will make the perfect ensemble for any country gentleman, lady or child. Shooting breeks have been designed to keep you warm and be comfortable enough to move around in. The wellies scream country living, too, but also add an essence of practicality to any outfit.

If you want to smarten up the look, a neutral-coloured collared shirt will ensure that your shooting breeks are the focal point of the outfit. We’re sure you’ll have one in your country wardrobe anyway, without having to purchase anything new.

5 Tips for the Perfect Autumn Photoshoot Outfits

If you’re still stuck, here are five of our top tips for picking the perfect outfits for the entire family.

  1. Pick a Colour Scheme for the Family – Whilst we’re all about wearing whatever you want, it can look really neat if the entire family is wearing the same colours. That doesn’t have to mean neutrals either. Various hues of reds, blues, or greens that complement each other give such a lovely family feel to your photos. Pick two or three key colours so you look cohesive but not the same!

  2. Keep Patterns to a Minimum – Whilst we’re big fans of patterns, they can look overwhelming if there are several competing in one photograph. Neutral tones and smaller prints are the exception, though, as they might not stand out on camera as much.

  3. Add Layers to your Outfits – Autumn photoshoots can mean cooler temperatures. Adding cosy coats and accessories will also add a lovely touch to your photos, and your family won’t have to worry about choosing to look good over warmth when they can have both!

  4. Let Everyone Dress for Themselves – There’s no point in making your family wear outfits that they’re not comfortable in or that aren’t their style. Trust us, it will reflect in their faces in the photos! Instead, let everyone wear whatever they want. If you have children who might choose a crazy outfit, why not give them some outfit options ahead of the photoshoot?

  5. Plan for Any Weather – It could be cold, raining, or both, so prepare for that. In addition to your outerwear, consider your footwear because, usually, autumn photoshoots are in the great outdoors. You’ll all need shoes or boots that are waterproof and have a good tread in case the ground is a little damp or uneven.

Selecting your autumn photoshoot outfits doesn’t have to be anything more complicated than wearing your favourite pieces and picking a couple of colours for the entire family to complement each other with. Your photographer will want to make sure that you’re all comfortable and cosy, so layering up is key, too!
