Findings from Rydale Clothing reflect the true countryside spirit – active, outdoorsy, and always weather-ready.
A new poll by British country clothing brand Rydale has revealed the UK’s rural dog owners are a hardy bunch, with 57% saying they never skip a walk. With an estimated 13 million dogs in the UK, the results suggest almost 7.5 million dog owners aren’t put off by poor weather.
The survey, which polled Rydale’s online community and received just short of 2,000 votes, highlights the resilience and dedication of Britain’s dog walkers. While 19% will only head out in heavy rain with waterproofs on, and 14% are happy to tackle snowy conditions, just 11% admit to calling it a day at the first sign of drizzle.
This grit is matched by routine: 65% of respondents walk their dogs every single day, with almost half (47%) going twice daily. Walks typically last 20–40 minutes for half of the respondents, with a further quarter stretching their outings close to an hour.
The countryside also plays a starring role in daily dog walks, with 77% of owners choosing rural paths and fields over parks, beaches, or city streets. Plus, the results revealed that walking is often a shared activity, with 65% preferring to go with family or friends rather than alone.
From mucky boots to mud-splattered underbellies, the results prove that dog walking in the UK isn’t just a pastime, but a daily ritual that won’t be stopped by the unpredictability of the British weather.
